This text relates to the current tendency to launch under a false flag a plethora of "constructivists" coming from various quarters - the North, St. Ives, the South Coast and London - all being given or claiming the title. Gillian Wise is the sole living artist who was a member of the British Constructivists (1960s) and Systems (1970s) groups. The British Constructivists (Victor Pasmore, Mary Martin, Kenneth Martin, Anthony Hill, John Earnest, Gillian Wise) defended judgement in a unique way. Blurring history is a disservice to English contemporary art. The judgements they made at the time are even more pertinent today.
